Local Area SEND Inspection
The LB Bromley, Bromley Clinical Commissioning group and wider partners are currently preparing for the Local Area SEND Inspection which will be carried out jointly by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This is an inspection of the Local Area.
The purpose of the area inspections is to look at how the changes brought in by the 2014 SEND reforms have been implemented. The inspectors will look across education, health and social opportunities. If they feel not enough progress has been made they may issue a written statement of action.
The areas the inspection team will focus on are:
- How well the local area identifies and assesses the needs of children and young people who have special educational needs and/or disabilities
- How well it meets the needs of these children and young people so that their outcomes and chances of participating fully in society
There will be a strong emphasis on gathering the views of young people, and parents and carers during the inspection. The inspection will include meetings with parent carers and also an online webinar to allow other parents and carers in the London Borough of Bromley area to contribute their views.
Ofsted & CQC inspectors will also hold meetings around key themes. We will not know what those are until the inspection. For these meetings they will request parent forum representation from BPV. We have looked at the key lines of enquiry usually selected and we are gathering as much information on these as possible.
BPV are keen to gather as many parent views as possible. If you would like to share your views with BPV ahead of the inspection you can email us at email@example.com.
While we understand that many parents and carers may have views on their experience that extend before the implementation of the SEND reforms in September 2014, it is important that this date is used as the start for gathering evidence about the impact of the reforms as part of the new inspection framework.
BPV will send out further information when the inspection is called. Please check the website and e-bulletins for further information regarding when the webinar will be available.
